On Sunday night, the police control room received a call from a person who claimed to have overheard two men planning to murder Narendra Modi when he visited IIT-Madras on Monday, in the same way former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. As the phone switched off since then, the police searched where the phone call was made from and traced it to Tiruvanmiyur.

The police station there was alerted and the man was picked up for interrogation. He was identified as Thirunavukkarasu and investigation revealed that he made up the assassination theory. “He is a house broker living in Thiruvalluvar Nagar with his family,” said the police. Further investigation is on.
