The accused Rajendra Prasad, a 28-year-old from Seven Wells, was arrested by the police.

Rajendra Prasad was an employee of a private firm where Marimuthu (65) of Sivaganga worked as a security guard. After the declaration of shutdown, Prasad was unable to take his bike from his office. On April 1, he reached office to take the bike, but Marimuthu reportedly cited instructions given to him and refused permission. This led to an argument, in the midst of which Prasad pushed him down and rode away.

The passers-by who saw Marimuthu lying on the road got him admitted to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. However, Marimuthu died without responding to treatment on Wednesday. North Beach police who had registered a case against Rajendra Prasad arrested him from a hideout on Wednesday and remanded him in judicial custody.
