Man held for conning boy, mother at ATM

A 43-year-old man, who cheated a boy and his mother on the pretext of helping them to withdraw money from an ATM kiosk and escaped with Rs 9,000, was arrested in New Washermenpet on Thursday.

Police said Jayalakshmi and her 16-year-old son went to a SBI ATM in their neighbourhood to withdraw money. Her son went inside the ATM, while she waited outside. A man, pretending to help the boy, withdrew Rs 11,000 from the account. However, he handed over only Rs 2,000 to the boy and fled with the remaining money. 

Based on Jayalakshmi’s complaint, the man, identified as Dhandapani, was arrested with help of the CCTV footage in the ATM. Police recovered Rs 7,000 from him.
