The accused Arunkumar of Labour Colony in Guindy had already been arrested for cheating 26 customers of a car showroom, where he worked as a salesman, in 2016 and had been out on bail.

A few months ago, Arunkumar approached one Akash Singh of Kottupuram and convinced him to give his car for a monthly rent of Rs 28,000. Since Arunkumar promptly paid the rent for two months, Akash Singh also gave another car to him apart from his friend’s.

However, within two weeks, Arunkumar was not reachable over the phone and he had vacated his house. Later, Akash Singh approached Guindy police and Arunkumar was picked from his in-laws’ house in Pallavaram.

Investigation revealed that he pledged Akash Singh’s car while keeping the third car since it met with an accident. All three cars were seized and Arunkumar was remanded in judicial custody.
