Cocaine worth ₹28 crore seized at Chennai airport from man from Rajasthan

The seized narcotic reportedly has an estimated street price of Rs 28 crore, said officials.

CHENNAIA 28-year-old man from Rajasthan was arrested by the sleuths from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at Chennai International Airport for attempting to smuggle 1 kg of cocaine worth approximately Rs. 28 crore.

The man, Bharat Vasitha, was traveling from Doha, Qatar, and was found to be carrying the drugs in his luggage.

The DRI team had received a tip-off about a large-scale drug smuggling operation from abroad and had been monitoring the airport closely.

Upon searching Vasitha's luggage, they found the heroin, which was initially thought to be a smaller quantity, but later discovered to be a much larger and more valuable amount.

The DRI has taken Vasitha into custody and is conducting further investigations.

It is suspected that he is part of an international drug trafficking gang.
