CHENNAI: A container lorry carrying spare parts of earthmovers met with an accident with a car in Tiruvallur on Thursday. The metal parts fell on a car that was parked nearby, thereby crushing it.

The earthmover spare part manufacturing unit is located at Melnallathur in Kadambathur. On Thursday morning, a container lorry carrying the earth mover spare parts was proceeding towards the factory from Padur. As it reached Manavalan Nagar in Tiruvallur-Sriperumbudur Highway, it swiftly went over a speedbreaker causing the metal parts to slide from the container.

Though the accident crushed the car, the owner of the car, Rajesh (27), from Mugalivakkam escaped unhurt as he had gone to a nearby restaurant to have breakfast. The accident caused an unexpected traffic delay in the area for over three kilometers and halted vehicle movement for over two hours causing frustration among motorists. Following this, the police arrived at the scene and cleared the scattered spare parts and removed the damaged car before traffic returned to normalcy. The Manavalan Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
