Kiran Bedi assures resumption of air traffic

The Puducherry administration would take all steps for the resumption of air traffic from Puducherry, Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi said in Puducherry on Saturday.

Talking to newspersons after visiting the Puducherry Airport, Bedi said that there was a good infrastructure at the Puducherry airport which would fully be utilised to resume air traffic. She said Union Civil Aviation Minister Gajapthy Raju was visiting Puducherry on Monday and she along with Chief Minister V Narayanasamy would hold discussions with him. She also said that steps would be taken to get the additional land required for the expansion of runway from Tamil Nadu. Air service was there from Puducherry airport from 1988 to 1992 and after that it was stopped. Later, the service was resumed from January 13, 2013. However, this service was also stopped due to loss incurred to the operators.
