Indirect election to send member to MU Senate

As per an announcement from the Commissioner, who is also the election officer, a councillor of the civic body should be sent as member of the senate as per Madras University Act, 1923.

CHENNAI: After eight years, the Greater Chennai Corporation will send its representative to the Senate of Madras University as Chennai Corporation Commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi announced an indirect election on October 28. As per an announcement from the Commissioner, who is also the election officer, a councillor of the civic body should be sent as member of the senate as per Madras University Act, 1923. As the council meeting for the month of October has been scheduled on the day, the indirect election will be conducted at the start of the meeting at around 9.30 am. Councillors who wish to contest the election are asked to collect applications at the Ripon Building from October 21 to October 28.
