CHENNAI: The city police arrested three people, including the owner and two staffers of an ice cream parlour, in Mannadi for possession and peddling of narcotic substances.

The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) of the city police had received a tip-off about the movement of drugs in Muthialpet and coordinated with the local police.

A team was on vigil on Saiva Muthaiya Street in Muthialpet, noted two men loitering suspiciously and detained them for questioning. On checking their belongings, police found 240 grams of OG ganja in their possession, after which the duo - Mohammed Farooq and Sultan Jafar, both residents of Mannadi, were arrested.

Further investigations revealed that the two men were staff at an ice cream parlour run by Zainulabddin. Probe revealed that Zainulabddin rented a separate house to store the contraband and supplied OG ganja to his clients through his staff. He also has a previous narcotics case against him, police said.

Further investigations are under way to find others who are part of the network.
