Motorist grievously hurt after highway signboard falls on GST road

Police sources said that the incident happened around 3 pm. According to sources, a MTC bus (route no. 70 V) hit the iron pillar on GST road towards Guindy which led to the accident.

CHENNAI: A motorist is in serious condition and five others were injured after a huge sign board of highways department spanning across the GST road fell after a MTC bus rammed onto the pillar holding the sign board near Alandur Metro station on Sunday evening.

Police sources said that the incident happened around 3 pm. According to sources, a MTC bus (route no. 70 V) hit the iron pillar on GST road towards Guindy which led to the accident.

The sign board fell on a two-wheeler, a load van and an autorickshaw, crushing the occupants on the two-wheeler. One person, identified as Shanmugasundaram (30) of Tondiarpet is grievously injured in the accident and is said to be in a serious condition.

The load van toppled and the driver, A Sathyanarayanan suffered injuries. Traffic was affected on GST road for two hours because of the accident. The driver of the MTC bus, Raghunathan has been secured by the police.
