Hoax bomb threat interrupts movie screening in Villivakkam

A movie screening had to be stopped midway after a multiplex theatre received a bomb threat call on Sunday night.

The police control room received a call around 11.30 pm and the person who spoke informed that he has planted bombs at a multiplex in Villivakkam, which would explode soon.


Top police officers were alerted about the call and the bomb squad and sniffer dogs rushed to the theatre. While the search lasted for about two hours, the bomb squad confirmed that no suspicious objects were found in and around the theatre.


Meanwhile, the people who were watching movies came to know about the call and started leaving the premises. The Villivakkam police have registered a case and a search is on to nab the caller.


In another incident, the Teynampet police arrested a 29-year-old man from Nagapattinam for threatening the State head of 108 ambulance services for sacking him. The accused, William Raj, worked as medical assistant in 108 ambulance services in Nagapattinam and was sacked after several allegations were raised against him.


Angered by the dismissal, William visited the headquarters in Teynampet and threatened Selvakumar. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and arrested William Raj. Further inquiry is on.
