Gang held for burgling locked houses

A burglary gang of six persons, including three juveniles, who targeted locked houses during the lockdown has been nabbed by the Pallikaranai police.

As much as 30 sovereigns, three kg of silver articles, 10 laptops, mobile phones and two-wheelers were seized from the accused identified as Saravanan (27) of Pallavaram, Sankar (26) of Vandalur and Nagaraj (18) of Thoraipakkam.

The police said that Saravanan is the main accused and has several cases pending against him in different police stations. “The trio sent three juveniles to look for locked houses in areas like Perungalathur, Chromepet, Nemilicheri, Perumbakkam and Pallikaranai. Based on their inputs, the trio would strike the houses wearing masks,” the police said. Most of the houses the burglars targeted belong to those who had either gone to their hometown or were stuck out of station due to the lockdown.

While the trio was remanded in the central prison in Puzhal, the juveniles were sent to an observation home.
