Friend surrenders in auto driver murder case

Two days after a man was killed by his wife, her lover Mahendran surrendered before the police on Tuesday. The woman, Gayatri, and her friend Bhanu – Mahendran’s wife – were already arrested by the police for killing Nagaraj, an auto driver, at his house in Nerkundram.

After questioning Mahendran, police said that his first wife and children were living in Tirukovilioor, while he was living with Bhanu in Nerkudnram. At that time, he developed relationship with Gayatri, wife of his friend Nagaraj.

Despite repeated warnings from Nagaraj, Gayatri continued her relationship with Mahendran. Last week, Nagaraj told Gayatri that he would kill Mahendran, while she told Bhanu.

On Saturday night, when Nagaraj was sleeping, Gayatri and Bhanu killed him by strangulating and smothering him with a pillow. Though Gayatri tried to stage a drama claiming that it was a natural death, she spilled the beans during intense grilling by the police. After she confessed, police arrested the two women.

Police said Mahendran, who operate motorised tricycle, was present at the house at the time of murder and then left for Villupuram. He returned to surrender at Koyambedu police station when he came to known that police had arrested Gayatri and Bhanu, police said.
