Expect wet weekend in city, downpour to continue in Delta

The delta districts will receive heavy rains during the next 24 hours, said Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai.

According to the weathermen, the delta districts have been receiving good rainfall for the last few days and southern districts will continue to receive moderate to heavy rains. However, there would be light rainfall in a few pockets in Chennai and sky will remain cloudy. 

Dr S Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, told DTNext that the trough of low pressure, which formed over Southwest Bay of Bengal and nearby areas on Thursday, now extends from gulf of Mannar to Southwest Bay off North Tamil Nadu coast and associated upper air trough extends up to 2.1 kilometres above mean sea level. 

“Such low pressure at mean sea level over Maldives area and nearby areas moved westwards and now lies over SouthEast Arabian sea and adjoining Maldives area with an upper air cyclonic circulation aloft extending up to 2.1 kilometres above mean sea level,” he said and added that there was heavy rain in the delta districts and  it would continue for the  next 24 hours.
