Unfazed by a silent rebellion being staged against him, EVKS sacked them, allegedly for contributing to party’s defeat in the Assembly poll. His detractors have promptly vented their anger at Elangovan for the sacking. Though no reason was cited for the disciplinary action in the official statement, a close confidant of EVKS attributed it to lack of coordination and non-performance during elections.
“Yes we won all seats in Kanyakumari, but it was not due to the DCC president’s hard work. Even winning candidates from constituencies like Dharapuram have accused the local DCC president of not cooperating during elections and hence this disciplinary action,” a highly placed TNCC source told DTNext.
The source also justified the action saying, “It is well within the powers of TNCC chief to sack functionaries as no AICC or PCC functionaries exist in Tamil Nadu. Let the party state in charge Mukul Wasnik object to the disciplinary action.” This paper had earlier predicted disciplinary action based on reports received from party candidates who had accused DCC presidents of conspiring against them during elections. Sathyamurthy Bhavan sources also more sacking is likely in the coming days, ahead of the civic polls.
