Elderly doctor rams car into professor in Porur; detained

A case has been registered against the doctor and further investigations are under way.

CHENNAI: The police detained an elderly doctor after he mowed down a woman, a college professor, with his car near Porur on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Padmapriya (37). She lived with her husband, Somasundaram (43), at Karambakkam near Porur.

The police said that Padmapriya worked as a professor at a private institute in Sriperumbudur.

On Monday morning, Padmapriya was riding her two-wheeler along Mount Poonamallee Road when she met with the accident.

The elderly doctor was trailing Padmapriya's two-wheeler, allegedly lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the bike. In the impact, the woman was thrown to the ground.

On information, Avadi Traffic Investigation Wing personnel rushed to the scene and moved Padmapriya to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The police secured the driver of the car, Dr Senthilvel (63) of Valasaravakkam.

The police said that he worked at a private hospital in Velappanchavadi.

A case has been registered against the doctor and further investigations are under way.
