The raid follows a tip-off received by the DVAC that the staff at the Panchayat Union office are demanding bribe especially for approving the plans for the construction of new buildings. Following that, on Thursday evening, a DVAC team headed by DSP and Kancheepuram district Anti-Corruption special officer Sumathi and 10 other officials went to the Panchayat Union office for a surprise riad. Sources said the raid got over only in the midnight. The officials found that temporary worker John had Rs 2 lakh in cash, which was not mentioned in any documents.

John was an intermediate in getting the money and he was not appointed by the government. During integration, John admitted that they used to collect bribe from those coming for plan approval and share it among staff. The police have detained John and are enquiring him further for details of staff involved in the corrupt practice and for how long they were doing this.
