Duo attacks auto driver, held

The Teynampet police arrested two persons for assaulting and verbally abusing an auto driver.

The accused, M Kumaresan (22) of Thoraipakkam and M Alaiyappan (53) of Thiru Vi Ka quarters in Teynampet, were booked under Sections 294(b) (obscene language), 323 (assault), 324 (assault with weapons), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 506(1) (criminal intimidation) of IPC and remanded in judicial custody. The incident happened on Tuesday night when the victim, M Suriyakumar (29) of Dr Thomas Road, was on his way to buy dinner in his autorickshaw.


An argument erupted between Suriyakumar and the accused as they were standing blocking the road near Alaiyamman temple. In the melee, the duo attacked him with stones. Based on his complaint, the Teynampet police secured the suspects based on CCTV footages from the area and remanded them in judicial custody.
