The MTC bus to Parry’s Corner departed from the Anagaputhur bus stop around 9.45 pm. The driver was identified as Jothilingam. The police said that there were nearly 20 passengers inside the bus and that was the last trip of the day. When the bus was nearing Pammal on Anagaputhur-Kundrathur Road, the driver could not control the vehicle and it hit a four-wheeler and a bike. When the passengers began to shout for help, onlookers intercepted the bus after a chase. When the bus stopped, they noticed that the driver was inebriated.

On information, the Shankar Nagar police and MTC staff from Chromepet depot arrived at the spot. The police said that the vehicles hit by the bus had only minor damages and the owners have not pressed any charges against the driver. While the MTC arranged for another driver to complete the trip, the police took custody of the drunk driver. The MTC said that action will be taken against the driver.
