376 persons booked for drunken driving in Chennai

CHENNAI: As many as 376 persons were booked for drunk driving by the City Police as part of a special drive during Pongal on Sunday.

Police said that about 6,000 motorists and vehicle users were scrutinised during the check-up.

According to the city police, the special drive was conducted by law and order along with the traffic enforcement police personnel at over 190 locations across the city.

Apart from drunken driving, city police slapped 359 separate cases for traffic violations including riding without a helmet, triple riding, speeding and dangerous driving, and other violations. Police seized 536 vehicles from the traffic violators. The top brass of the city police has asked the subordinate officers to continue with the stringent vehicle checks in the forthcoming days to prevent and restrict traffic violations.
