Driver who kidnapped school girl arrested under Pocso

A driver who kidnapped a schoolgirl was arrested under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, in Tiruvallur district on Saturday. Police said the girl, a minor, who had completed Class 12, had gone to the market at Thadaperumbakkam in Ponneri a few days ago and failed to return.

The shocked family members undertook a search and on failing to find her, they lodged a complaint at the all-women police station in Ponneri. Investigations revealed that a car driver Vinoth (30) from Gummidipoondi had allegedly taken the girl on the promise of marrying her. Following this, a search was held, leading to the rescue of the minor girl and the arrest of the driver. He has been booked under various sections of Pocso Act and remanded in custody.
