CHENNAI: Tension prevailed outside the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) office in RA Puram on Thursday after a differently abled petitioner set himself afire.

On hearing the man's cries, police personnel on duty rushed to his aid and put out the fire. The injured man was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College hospital where he is being treated.

Police identified the man as Anthony Samy (40), a native of Viridhunagar, currently residing in Velachery.

Probe revealed that a woman had filed a complaint against Anthony Samy with the cyber crime wing in Viridhunagar in September last year regarding a financial dispute after which police had registered a case against him.

Abhiramapuram police have registered a case in connection with the self immolation and are investigating.
