CHENNAI: Despite Chief Minister MK Stalin asking his party MLAs not to praise him in their speeches in the Assembly, they continue to do so. In one such instance, Ottapidaram MLA Shanmugaiah in his speech during the question hour started praising former chief minister M Karunanidhi and then Stalin. When the eulogy extended for more than a couple of minutes, Stalin interrupted and asked DMK MLAs not to heap praise on him. “I once again ask DMK MLAs not to praise me in the Assembly,” said Stalin. Despite Stalin’s ‘diktat,’ Anaicut MLA AP Nandakumar heaped encomiums on the CM and Chepauk MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin, which left Stalin embarrassed. Even during the Budget session in 2021, when Cuddalore MLA G Iyappan started praising Stalin, he almost rebuked Iyappan and asked the DMK MLAs not to praise him.
