Deadline to pay property tax extended in Chennai

Property owners can pay using QR Code, Paytm and Bharat Bill Payment System applications apart from visiting civic body's official website. Also, payments can be made in person and at e-seva centres.

CHENNAI: To encourage property owners in the city to pay their taxes, the Greater Chennai Corporation has extended the deadline for payment without penalty upto November 15. The last date for payment without penalty ended on October 15.

A Chennai Corporation press release said that the extension of of the deadline is given due to recent tax revision. "As per the rules, property owners should pay 2 per cent of their tax amount as penalty if they fail to pay on time. Also, incentive of 5 per cent (maximum Rs. 5,000) is being given to the owners who pay on time," the release said.

Between October 1 and October 15, as much as Rs 4.67 crore has been given as incentive for paying taxes for the second half of the financial year. Around 5.17 lakh property owners had paid taxes between October 1 and October 18.
