College bus fatally knocks down security guard

A 53-year-old security guard of a private engineering college in Kelambakkam, who was opening the gates to allow the entry of a bus into the campus, was fatally knocked down in the wee hours of Saturday.

Jayaraman of Pooyilupai village was deployed at the entry of SSN College of Engineering. Around 5.45 am, he was opening the gate to allow a bus to exit the campus. But even before he could open the gate fully, the bus driver reportedly sped through the gate, catching the guard unawares. 

Jayaraman sustained grievous injuries, and died on the spot. After learning about the incident, Jayaraman’s kin staged a protest in front of the college demanding compensation for his family and sought the arrest of the driver. Thiruporur police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
