Chided by mother, Class 11 girl kills self in Padappai

CHENNAI: A Class 11 girl killed herself in Padappai after her mother scolded for being addicted to social media on Sunday.

The deceased, Charumathi (17) of Athanenchery in Padappai, was studying at Somangalam government school.

Police said Charumathi was an active user of Instagram and Facebook. Her mother Sumathi, who was insisting on Charumathi to concentrate on her studies, recently snatched her mobile phone and ordered that she should not use it until she finishes schooling.

However, Charumathi was secretly using her mobile phone without her mother's knowledge and on Sunday, Sumathi, who caught Charumathi red-handed with a mobile scolded her and wanted her not to use it hereafter.

After the incident, Charumathi went inside her room and did not come out for a long time.

Later on, suspicion when Sumathi broke open the door she found Charumathi had killed herself. Soon, the neighbours rushed her to a private hospital in Old Perungalathur, where the doctors declared her brought dead.

The Manimangalam police sent the body for post-mortem to the Chromepet GH and police have registered a case.
