Chennai: Two held for hurling liquor bottle at TVK meet

The incident happened during a campaign meet in Ayanavaram led by TVK's Villivakkam candidate Aadhav Arjuna. While Nanjil Sampath was addressing the gathering, a liquor bottle was thrown into the crowd from a nearby building and a woman attending the meet was injured by the glass shards.

CHENNAI: The police arrested two men for hurling an empty liquor bottle at TVK meet in Ayanavaram on Tuesday night, injuring a woman.

As charges flew between the TVK and DMK over the incident, police probe revealed that the two men had no political affiliation and that they had a drunken brawl and ended up throwing a bottle into the crowd.

The incident happened during a campaign meet in Ayanavaram led by TVK's Villivakkam candidate Aadhav Arjuna. While Nanjil Sampath was addressing the gathering, a liquor bottle was thrown into the crowd from a nearby building and a woman attending the meet was injured by the glass shards.

Aadhav Arjuna demanded that the police immediately identify and take action against the individuals who threw the bottle.

After investigations, the police said an altercation broke out between Rithik (19) and Udayasuriyan alias Appu Kutti (53), both residents of Ayanavaram. Probe revealed that they were under the influence of alcohol and had a physical altercation.

Police stated Udayasuriyan works at the Electricity Board office in Ayanavaram Water Tank area, while Rithik is a first-year BCom student at a private college in Maduravoyal.
