CHENNAI: A food festival and fashion show will be part of Chennai Sangamam, which will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on January 14 at the Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore.

The food festival will feature stalls selling food from different regions of the State. Speaking to reporters, DMK Parliamentary Party leader Kanimozhi said, “The festival will feature performances by folk artistes from across TN and other States.

They will be organised at 20 locations across Chennai, including parks and public spaces, and will continue until January 18. Around 1,500 artists are expected to participate.” Events could not be held in Perambur as the park was undergoing repairs.

However, programmes would be organised in Avadi, Kolathur and Royapuram in North Chennai.

Traditional rural sports such as uriyadi, pallankuzhi and paramapadam would be conducted; kabaddi is not included.

Silambam artistes will also perform during the festival. “Leaders from across India are not invited this year, but they will be invited in the coming years,” Kanimozhi added.
