CHENNAI: The State government has issued an order to streamline the fees for name changes in property tax records. The Municipal Administration director said the fee structure would now be uniform across TN.

Accordingly, the fee has been fixed at Rs 500 for residential buildings and Rs 1,000 for non-residential buildings. The revised structure will come into effect immediately after approval from the respective urban local bodies.

To ensure public awareness, local bodies have been instruct- ed to display the fee details on their official websites and on notice boards in their offices.

The Municipal Administration Department clarified that fees will not apply to water and sewerage connections, as those details will be updated automatically when property tax records are modified. “People need not visit Corporation or municipal offices. They can ap- ply online through the municipal website by paying the revised fee,” Reddy said.
