Gold rate touches Rs 1.18 lakh mark; silver costs Rs 300 per gram on February 23, 2026

CHENNAI: The shiny metal increased by Rs 1,440 per sovereign on February 23.

The yellow metal is now priced at Rs 1,18,880 per sovereign (8 grams), and Rs 14,860 per gram, marking an increase of Rs 180.

On February 21, 22-carat-gold was priced at Rs 1,17,440 per sovereign and Rs 14,680.

Silver prices increases

Silver also witnessed an increase by Rs 10 to Rs 300 per gram (Rs 3,00,000 per kg) on February 23.

Gold rate today vs gold rate on this day, last year

Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 64,360 per sovereign (Rs 8,045 per gram) on February 22, 2025, to Rs 1,18,880 per sovereign (Rs 14,860 per gram) on February 23, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 54,520, or about 84.71%.
