CHENNAI: Gold prices fell sharply in the city on February 6 (Friday), dropping by Rs 1,600 per sovereign to Rs 1,12,960 (8 grams). The price per gram fell by Rs 200 to Rs 14,120.
On February 5, 22-carat gold was priced at Rs 1,14,560 per sovereign (8 grams) and Rs 14,320 per gram.
Silver also witnessed a fall on Friday, dropping by Rs 20 to Rs 280 per gram (Rs 2,80,000 per kg) on February 6. A gram of silver had cost Rs 300 on February 5.
Gold remains significantly higher compared to last year. Prices have surged from Rs 63,440 per sovereign (Rs 7,930 per gram) on February 6, 2025, to Rs 1,12,960 per sovereign (Rs 14,120 per gram) on February 6, 2026, marking an increase of Rs 49,520 or about 78.05%.
