Of the 64 containment zones, 24 are in Tondiarpet and 15 are in Kodambakkam zone. There are only three containment zones in Royapuram, which has the highest number of cases among the 15 city zones. Similarly, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, too, has only three containment zones.

Tiruvottiyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Valasaravakkam, Alandur and Adyar zones do not have containment zones. “We are converting areas and streets where a huge number of cases are reported as a part of cluster containment plan,” an official said.

Meanwhile, the civic body has decided to equip survey workers and field-level officials with pulse oxymeters to check the oxygen levels of the residents.

“We have distributed 10,000 infrared thermal scanners and 1,000 pulse oxymeters. Oxymeters have been given to the workers in Tondiarpet, Royapuram and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zones and we are planning to distribute the devices to all the remaining zones,” a Chennai Corporation press release said.
