Chennai: Boy goes with mouth ulcer, doc performs circumcision

Ice House police has registered a case against the doctor, Mohammad Owaisi under two sections

CHENNAI: The Ice House police booked a doctor for mistakenly performing circumcision on a nine-year-old boy, who was brought to the hospital for treatment for a mouth ulcer.

According to police, the nine-year-old had visited the hospital last Saturday when the incident happened. After learning about what transpired, the parents of the boy approached the police with a complaint.

Subsequently, relatives of the affected boy protested outside the hospital, demanding action against the hospital authorities and the doctor. Based on information, the police rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors. Later, officials booked the doctor, identified as Mohammed Owaisi (24).

According to police sources, the doctor allegedly mistook the boy for another patient on whom circumcision was to be performed.

Police have booked Dr Owaisi under sections 125 (2) (act endangering life and personal safety of others) and 351 (3) of the BNS. Further investigations are on.

Meanwhile, officials from the Health and Family Welfare department too visited the hospital premises and conducted inspections.
