Chennai: 439 pets cremated at Kannamapet pet crematorium since last October

Pet burial grounds have been established at Moolakotthalam (Royapuram zone), Mylapore (Teynampet zone), and Kannammapet (Kodambakkam zone).

CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation’s (GCC) modernised pet crematorium in Kannammapet has cremated 439 deceased pets since it began operations in October 2025.

The facility was constructed for Rs 50 lakh under the Singara Chennai 2.0 project.

A release from the Corporation said, “For the benefit of pet owners, the GCC has taken measures to provide both burial and cremation services at dedicated cemeteries.

Pet burial grounds have been established at Moolakotthalam (Royapuram zone), Mylapore (Teynampet zone), and Kannammapet (Kodambakkam zone).

The GCC offers extensive veterinary care for pets, including rabies vaccinations, internal and external deworming, and Animal Birth Control (ABC) procedures.

The Corporation also manages the mandatory licensing of pets and utilises microchipping to monitor the dog population.”
