 The event saw the participation of some of the best clubs and riders from Ambur, Bengaluru, Puducherry, and Chennai. The championship was held in three categories — show jumping, dressage and pas-deux-run — for both men and women from various age groups. “Generally, major horse race events are held at Bengaluru because that city has more riders in south India. We are hosting a race in Chennai after three years. Though CEC has 50 horses, riders brought their horses in special trucks to Chennai. One of the intentions of hosting the event in the city was to give Chennaiites an idea of horse riding and to instill interest in them. Many are unaware that this is the only Olympic sport where women and men can compete in the same category without any difference,” says Isabelle Futnani from CEC.

Riders from the Police and Officers Training Academy also participated in the championship. The event was judged by KCS Reddy from Hyderabad and Sunil Shivdas from Ooty, the only four-star dressage judge from the country.
