Celebrating 10 years of successful cleft lip repairs

Jackie Elton, Co-founder and Chairperson Transforming Faces, Canada, with whose funding two outreach programmes for cleft lip and palate repair surgeries are being conducted by Sri Ramachandra University (SRU) Hospital in Tiruvannamalai and Cuddalore for the last ten years, was recently in Chennai at an event to mark a decade of service

Addressing the gathering, she said, “I was born with cleft lip and palate in mid-forties during the world war.  I have undergone many surgeries.  

I know what it is to come up as a child with this disability.” She added that with over 500 people getting corrective surgeries in these two centres, it has enabled them to do similar initiatives in other countries. 

Director of the Tamil Nadu programme B.Subramanian, Sr Assistant Professor of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, Dr.T.K.Parthasarathy, Chief Advisor, Dr.S.P.Thyagarajan, Dean, Research, Dr.D.Kandasamy, Dean, Dental Sciences, Dr.Arun Chitharanjan, Associate Dean, Dental Sciences, and Dr.Sridevi Padmanabhan, HOD, Orthodontics were also present.
