Car crashes into median near Poonamallee, goes up in flames

The driver, identified as Prasad, a resident of Pappanchathram near Poonamallee, escaped with minor injuries thanks to the swift response of bystanders

CHENNAI: A car burst into flames after colliding with a container lorry and crashing into a median wall on the Poonamallee-Bengaluru National Highway on Thursday morning. The driver, identified as Prasad, a resident of Pappanchathram near Poonamallee, escaped with minor injuries thanks to the swift response of bystanders.

The incident occurred when Prasad was making a U-turn on the highway to head to work. A container lorry, travelling at high speed towards Bengaluru, rammed into the rear of his car. The front of the car collapsed from the impact, and soon after, it caught fire.

Passersby rushed to the scene, pulled Prasad from the wrecked car, and took him to a nearby private hospital. Minutes after the rescue, the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Fire and rescue services from the Poonamallee Fire Station arrived promptly and doused the blaze.
