A native of Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, Harteij was diagnosed with third stage cancer when he was 23 years old. It was a shock, and he anticipated huge costs. “But I searched for treatment, found a centre and underwent chemotherapy sessions,” the youth recalled. “The disease was subsiding and I became healthy,” said Harteij. 

When he was cured, he did not want to sit idle, but create awareness among cancer patients like himself. “And so I planned my 35,000 km bike ride and reached Tiruchy, the ninth spot in my tour of five months’ duration, travelling an average of 500 km a day,” Harteij said.

He visited the cancer patients in GVN hospital in Tiruchy and advised them to live healthy and be courageous as cancer was curable.
