CHENNAI: Chennai police arrested a 34-year-old BJP functionary for allegedly pasting derogatory posters of Chief Minister M K Stalin in several areas in North Chennai.

The city police have arrested four people in the case. Krishnakumar Murugan, functionary of BJP IT wing and a close associate of a top BJP leader, Philip Raj, who stuck the posters, Sathyanathan, who handed over the posters to Philipraj and Sivagurunathan, who printed the posters in Sivagangai and sent them through courier.

According to the police, on September 11, based on complaints from Corporation officials and local DMK functionaries, a case was registered in the Central Crime Branch (CCB). The complainants had mentioned that hundreds of posters depicting MK Stalin in a vulgar cartoon with misleading information were posted in several areas in Elephant Gate, Washermenpet, Parrys corner and Broadway.

After preliminary investigations, police initially nabbed Philip Raj, while he pasted posters on the walls. Esplanade police seized over 4000 posters from his house. Subsequently, Sathyanathan and Sivagurunathan were nabbed.

Police also seized the original copy of the poster from the office of Krishnakumar Murugan in Adyar.
