Bankrupt hotelier commits suicide

A 56-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday night near Chitlapakkam after he found out that he would not be able to pay back the bank loan he took to run his restaurant.

The deceased, Gunaskekaran, owned the chain of GK restaurants in partnership with his friend in five places in Tambaram, Chromepet and its surroundings. Gunasekaran had got the loan from the banks to open the outlets.

The chain of restaurants was not doing well, and he was not able to make money as expected for the past few months, police said. And Gunasekaran was unable to pay the loan amount to the bank. Dejected over this, Gunasekaran consumed pesticides before going to bed on Wednesday night. On seeing him vomiting, his family rushed him to a private hospital where the doctors declared him died on arrival. Later Chitlapakkam police visited the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
