Bagels that sit like a crown atop Ambattur

In this weekly series, foodies talk to us about a new neighbourhood restaurant they’ve explored and why it is worth visiting.

Ambattur is pretty much considered the back of beyond and we’re sort of starved for good options when it comes to dining out. However, with the opening of OMR Food Street in our locality, the variety of eateries has drastically improved. I chanced upon a new outlet called The Bagel Pot — I’d never heard of bagels before so I learnt that they were a form of baked bread, popular in the US

.

I decided to give it a try and the first thing I noticed was some of the employees are transgender people. It’s amazing that the eatery is giving this oppressed community a shot at a dignified life. With the help of the owner, I decided to try the Mediterranean cream cheese with jalapeño bagel and chocolate and marshmallow on a sesame bagel. The bread, for which the dough is made in-house sans additives, was soft and fluffy. The marshmallow had melted perfectly so it was definitely a treat for sweet tooths.

Restaurant: The Bagel Pot.

Address: OMR Food Street, Ambattur.

Timings: 12.30 to 10.30 pm.

Cuisine: Cafe, bakery, beverages.
