Andhra Pradesh officials asked to check theft of Krishna water

Despite releasing Krishna water twice from Kandaleru reservoir by the Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Department, the flow to Poondi reservoir was yet to pick up, said the PWD officials. The officials have asked the AP officials to check the Kandaleru-Poondi canal properly to prevent water theft by farmers for irrigation.

The AP Irrigation Department has yet again assured TN to raise the quantum of Krishna water, after the PWD approached their counterpart and stated there is no flow in the canal. A PWD engineer said that level in the reservoir would have considerably increased, had Krishna water reached the reservoir since release.  Meanwhile, the PWD officials, who stopped release of water to Red Hills started letting out water on Thursday for drinking purpose. The Chennai Metro Water was continuously pumping water from five lakes including Veeranam. “Water from lower anicut (Kollidam) is heading towards Veeranam and as of now, there is no water scarcity,” said an official, CMWSSB.
