Police said the deceased were identified as K Nagarajan (53) and his son N Vignesh (24). Nagarajan was representing ward six in the Nattarasankottai Town Panchayat council and was undertaking various business, including finance, real estate etc. 

A ten-member gang that came to the Councillor’s house on motorcycles. While a few of the gang members waited outside, others barged into the house and attacked Nagarajan with sickles indiscriminately. Vignesh while attempting to save his father was also attacked with sickles by the gang. Both Nagarajan and Vignesh died on the spot. 

The gang also attacked the Councillor’s wife Usha and fled from the house. 

Though the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, police suspect intra-party rivalry may be the reason behind the double murder.
