4 new judges of Madras High Court take oath of office

With this induction, the working strength of Madras High Court has increased to 64 (48 permanent judges + 16 additional judges) as against the sanctioned strength of 75 judges.

CHENNAI: Four new judges were sworn in as the additional judges of the Madras High Court on Tuesday. Acting Chief Justice T Raja administered the oath of office to the four judges Ramasamy Sakthivel, P Dhanabal, Chinnasamy Kumarappan, and Kandasamy Rajasekar as an elevation from the district judges to the additional judges of the Madras High Court.

With this induction, the working strength of Madras High Court has increased to 64 (48 permanent judges + 16 additional judges) as against the sanctioned strength of 75 judges.

Advocate General (AG) R Shunmugasundaram introduced the newly appointed additional judges to the gathering at the event. The advocate general said, "Justice Ramasamy Sakthivel was born on July 21 1973 to C Ramasamy - Vaeppayi couple, Vangal Village at the banks of river Cauvery, Karur. He held positions such as additional district judge in Thanjavur and Coimbatore, Administrator general and official trustee of Tamil Nadu, Registrar General of the Madras High Court, Principal district judge of Coimbatore and Krishnagiri.”

"Justice P Dhanabal was on March 5, 1974 Thoranakkalpatti, Karur to T Pappusamy and P Palaniammal. He served as an additional district munsif and additional sub-judge in Dharmapuri. Later he held the position of Additional district judge in Tirunelveli, Principal Judge in Cuddalore, and Chief Judge in Puducherry. He also served as the registrar general for the Madras High Court principal bench,” said the AG.

"Justice Chinnasamy Kumarappan was born on July 15, 1972, to AT Chinnasamy and C. Thilagam in Sivaganga district. He was posted as the second additional district munsif in Thoothukudi, later he became an additional sub-judge of Thoothukudi. He served as an additional district judge in Madurai and was deputed as an officer of the special duty - IT cum Statistics in the principal bench of Madras High Court, After that he was appointed as registrar IT - cum - Statistics and registrar general of the Madras High Court. Later he was appointed as presiding officer of the Principal labor court, Chennai,” noted the AG.

"Justice Kandasamy Rajasekar was born on April 29, 1975, to Kandasamy and Lakshmikutti in Chennai. He served as a district judge in Salem and Namakkal, then he was appointed as the presiding officer of the industrial tribunal, in Chennai. Subsequently, he served as the Principal district judge in Tirunelveli and also served as the member secretary of the Tamil Nadu state legal authority. Later, he held the position of principal district judge in Coimbatore,” said the AG.

Later, the Chairman of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Bar Council P S Amalraj welcomed the new additional judges.

State Public Prosecutor Hasan Mohamed Jinnah, Additional Advocate Generals, State Government Pleader P. Muthukumar, other law officers, Bar Council of India vice-chairman S Prabakaran, office-bearers of various Bar associations and other lawyers marked their presence at the swearing-in ceremony.
