3.8 tonnes of red sanders logs seized in Tiruvallur

Red Hills police raided a house from where they seized three tonnes of red sanders logs kept hidden, on Saturday night.

Police said the house at Annai Indira Nagar was searched based on a tip-off, and the wooden logs were found wrapped in clothes inside the house. The seized logs are estimated to be worth Rs 50 lakh. Police said the logs were brought from Andhra Pradesh and kept in the house before being smuggled abroad via sea, said police. 

The logs were handed over to Tiruvallur Forest department officials. Meanwhile, a team headed by Red Hills Range Forest officer, who were conducting vehicle checks in Pennalurpet in Tiruvallur on Sunday morning, seized 13 more red sanders logs weighing a total of 800 kg from a car. However, two men who were inside the vehicle fled the spot leaving the car after noticing Forest officials.
