21 kg banned tobacco products seized last week; 110 arrested

Last week, from October 2 to October 8, Chennai police have seized 17.2 kg of Gutkha products and 3.9 kg of Mava in 110 cases across the city, arresting as many persons.

CHENNAI: As part of their ‘Drive against Banned Tobacco Products’ programme, Chennai police have intensified action against those selling Gutkha and other banned products since the beginning of this year.

Last week, from October 2 to October 8, Chennai police have seized 17.2 kg of Gutkha products and 3.9 kg of Mava in 110 cases across the city, arresting as many persons.

Of the total haul last week, major seizure was made by the TP Chatiram police who seized 2 kg of mava from a person near on October 5. One person- B Raja (34) of TP Chathiram 24th street was arrested by the police.

Chennai Police have warned of severe action against those selling and smuggling banned tobacco products and have been counselling petty shop owners to not sell Gutkha products.
