20-year-old dies, five others hurt in car accident

A 20-year-old man was killed, and five others injured in a car accident on East Coast Road, after the vehicle hit a transformer on Wednesday night.

The incident happened around 11.30 pm, and killed Vigneswaran, a student of visual communication in a college in Ramapuram, who was to celebrate his borth on Thursday. The accident happened near Indian Overseas Bank branch, Kanathur. The injured were identified as Nithyaganesh (21), Narayanan (20), Vetri (21), Renix (21), Balasubramani (20). 

The students were studying under graduation courses in different private colleges. According to the police, all of them were returning from a private resort where they had a get together to celebrate Vigneswaran’s birthday. 

The car, with six college students, was moving from Kovalam towards Chennai when the driver lost control and hit a transformer. The boy Vigneshwaran (20) who was seated behind the driver, sustained head injury died on the spot and five others escaped with injuries,” said the traffic Investigation wing.
