The deceased were identified as V Sadhana (5) daughter of Vijayakumar and her neighbours H Rohini (6) and H Ramya (4), both sisters and daughters of Harishankar, a native of Uttar Pradesh. Harishankar was staying in Aalathur village near Thiruporur in Chengalpattu for the past 10 years and was doing business.

Police said on Wednesday morning the three girls went to the Samudeeswari temple pond near their house hoping to collect small ornamental fishes. A few villagers who noticed the girls hanging around advised them to go home. The girls who went to the houses seem to have returned to the pond.

A few minutes later all three slipped and fell in the lake. On hearing their cries, the villagers jumped in the water and rescued the girls and they were rushed to a private hospital nearby but all the three were declared brought dead.

The Tiruporur police visited the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem to the Chengalpattu government hospital. Police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
