2 die in road accidents in Poonamallee

Among the other mishaps, a 45-year-old leather factory employee, who was knocked down by a speeding autorickshaw, in Poonamallee, on Tuesday night, died without responding to treatment at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, on Wednesday morning.

The deceased Mohammed Modhin was a native of Odisha and was returning from work in a bicycle when an autorickshaw knocked him down. Passers-by rushed him to KMC where he eventually succumbed. Poonamallee traffic investigation police have registered a case and further investigation is on. In another accident in their jurisdiction around 7 am, Rajagopal (70) of Senneerkuppam was knocked down by a speeding autorickshaw on Avadi-Poonamalle road. He died on the way to the hospital and police have detained the driver for further investigation.

Last year during the same drive, 263 drunken driving cases, 33 rash driving, 233 triple riding, 80 speeding cases were registered. Additional Commissioner (Traffic) A Arun, when contacted, said that the cases were booked only till 9 pm on Tuesday after which the offenders were detained at temporary shamianas to create awareness about the harms of drunk driving and other traffic offences.
