2 die, 3 injured after lorry meets with accident near Tambaram

CHENNAI: Two people died and three others were injured after a lorry met with an accident on the Outer Ring Road near Tambaram on Friday.

A lorry loaded with black limestones from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh was heading towards Chennai on the Minjur-Vandalur Outer Ring Road.

In the early morning when the lorry was speeding on ORR near Erumaiyur, the lorry driver Lakshmanan (36) lost control of the vehicle and the lorry fell off the road. On the impact, Siva Reddy and Varadaraju who were sitting on the stones in the backside trapped under the stones and died on the spot.

The lorry driver, Lakshmanan, his son, Vasu, and cleaner Subba Naidu (50), who were in the driver's cabin suffered severe injuries.

On information, the Tambaram Traffic police and the fire and rescue team who rushed to the spot admitted the injured to the Chromepet GH and sent the bodies of the dead for post-mortem examination.

Police said the driver was half asleep and that was the reason for the accident.

The police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
